Police Department

Mission Statement

The Lovington Police Department dedicates itself to the delivery of modern, professional law enforcement services. Our citizens are to be treated with respect, dignity, compassion, courtesy and fairness. We are committed to the protection of rights as we strive to enforce the law impartially and effectively through training, technology and diligence. Members of the Lovington Police Department recognize our special relationship with the community we serve and remain sensitive to the community’s priorities and needs.

The Lovington Police Department is a progressive organization comprised of an authorized staff of 26 sworn officers and 11 civilians who are dedicated professionals. The Department offers traditional law enforcement services to our community as well as innovative approaches to community problems.

Police Administration consists of the Chief of Police, Lieutenant and an Administrative Assistant. Police Administration handles professional standards, public information and all media related needs.

Patrol Services Division is the largest Division in the Police Department with strength of 4 Sergeants, 1 Corporal and 14 officers. The division is made up of the following units: Patrol, Canine, School Resources and Training & Recruiting.

Criminal Investigations Division consists of 1 Sergeant Detective and 3 Detectives of which one is assigned to the Lea County Drug Task Force. Our Criminal Investigations Division is the most diverse unit within the department. Criminal Investigations handle Crimes Against Persons, Narcotics, Sex Crimes, Property Crimes and Auto Theft/Burglary etc.

Communications Division consists of 1 Civilian Supervisor and 7 Telecommunications Officers.

Code Enforcement Division consists of 1 Code Enforcement officer. Their duties are to enforce the City’s nuisance ordinances and ensure our citizens remain in compliance with them.
